Eucharist

Your own mystery lies on the altar … Be what you see, receive what you are.
~ St. Augustine

eucharistThe Mystery of Christ is this: Our full humanity is our true divinity.
Please read that again.
Breathe with it.
Everything else we can say rests on this mystery. It can never be fully known by the mind but this mystery can be fully lived…with our hearts.

largeIn the space of the Heart, Earth and Heaven are eternally in communion.
Really.
In our bodies.
This is not just poetry.

The truth and beauty of who we are is a unique part of the Love that creates and sustains all that is. We are Love. God is Love. Jesus Christ is the full incarnation of this Love into space and time. His invitation is strikingly simple and clear: “follow me.”

We are invited to follow Jesus into our own realization of our full humanity and true divinity. He was born, lived and died to remove the veil that separates us from our deepest inner home. Eucharist is Jesus’ gift to the world for this journey.

Jesus, the incarnation of Love, blazed a path of Presence so that we could leave our illusion behind and discover the truth of our own lives. The Master did not write anything down; he left no manuals of prayer or meditation; he left no directions for the creation of any organization or institution. In what he did not leave he makes an emphatic gesture that echoes through time and space to the one thing he did leave: Eucharist.

Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body that is broken for you. Do this in re-membrance of me.” In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in re-membrance of me.” (I Corinthians 11:23-26)

02-13-MessiahJesus’ gift is not a hollow memorial to a hero of bygone days. It is an act of such deep, spiritual magic that we can barely fathom its power. On the night of the Last Supper, Jesus opened a portal through eternity that makes it possible to be transformed by the Presence of Christ in our lives of space and time. In the Eucharist our own mystery lies on the altar. It is the ultimate homeopathic medicine for our hearts and souls. It wakes in each of us our own unique participation in the Christ consciousness. Be what you see, receive what you are.

This great Mystery is not a magic trick. It is more like making love. It is not something in which just a casual reciting of the right words out of the right book will make present the heart opening power of the Life That Never Goes Away. Form and content must be deeply animated by a conscious presence in the priest, the ministers and the gathered community for the portal to Love to open as wide as possible. Lovers who have found their way to communion know this same secret. Presence transforms the mechanics into an encounter with beauty.

The Church of the Dancing Christ is a community of people who are called to practice Eucharist as an art – for our own sake and for the world’s. The power of Eucharist is not just the transformation of individuals but contains within it the reconciliation of all things to God, to Love. We celebrate Eucharist for the earth, for the oppressed, for the lost, for the afflicted. For, the answer to everything is Love. Everything.

There is much more to say on this matter. But too many words can simply obscure the Mystery. The only way to understand is to feel it in the body. Come and see.
